Projector lens problems show up in three forms: physical damage (crack or scratch from a fall or knock), motorised focus or zoom that no longer moves, and lens-shift or aperture mechanism stuck mid-throw. All three are repairable on-site or at our workshop, depending on whether the optical assembly needs replacement.

Image refuses to focus
Focus ring spins but the image stays soft. Edges sharp, centre blurry. Lens element shifted, broken focus thread, or motor jammed.
Crack or scratch on lens
Visible chip, hairline crack or scratch on the front lens element — throws shadows, ghosting, or a permanent dark spot on the projected image.
Zoom motor jammed
Zoom in / zoom out command from the remote does nothing — motor whines but lens barrel doesn't move, or moves only partway.
Lens shift stuck
Vertical or horizontal lens-shift dial frozen or moving in only one direction — image off-centre, can't be re-aimed without moving the projector.
Smear or fungus inside lens
Cloudy patch, fingerprint smear or fungus growth between lens elements — image looks hazy, contrast collapsed, especially in humid Hyderabad summers.
Image one-corner blur
Image sharp on left, soft on right (or top vs bottom) — internal lens element loose or one of the LCD/DMD panels mis-aligned with the lens.

Decide repair or workshop swap
If the lens unit needs full replacement, we collect the projector, source the assembly from authorised distributor (2-7 working days for rare models), and fit at our Secunderabad workshop.
Test, calibrate, deliver
After the lens is fitted we run focus, keystone and convergence tests, confirm the image is sharp corner-to-corner, and either deliver back to your address or you collect from the store — your choice.

Lens unit replacement
Full lens assembly replacement when the front element is cracked, scratched or the optical block has shifted internally. Price depends on whether the lens is short-throw, standard or interchangeable.

₹6,000 to ₹20,000 fitted, depending on the model. Standard-throw lenses on portable projectors are ₹6,000-₹10,000. Boardroom and education projectors are ₹10,000-₹15,000. If the crack is on the protective front glass only (some projectors have a removable dust cover), yes — we replace the cover. If the crack is on the actual optical lens element, no — the optical path is permanently degraded and the unit needs a full lens assembly replacement to recover proper image quality.
Likely yes, but could also be panel mis-alignment. We test by adjusting focus across the image — if the soft side never sharpens regardless of focus position, the lens element is shifted or one of the LCD/DMD panels is off-centre. Both are repairable. Diagnosis is part of the ₹149 visit.
Hyderabad humidity is rough on lens optics. Moisture migrates between lens elements, dust binds to the moisture, and you get a permanent haze or fungus growth. Caught early, a lens clean (₹799-₹1,500) clears it up. Caught late — once fungus has etched the coating — the lens element needs replacement.
Depends on the cost ratio. If the lens repair quote is more than 50% of a new equivalent projector, replacement is cheaper. We'll tell you that honestly during the diagnosis. For 8+ year old projectors with discontinued lens parts, we usually recommend upgrading the unit.
Yes — lens-shift mechanism rebuild, motor replacement, gear re-greasing and limit-switch repair are common jobs for Sony VPL, Canon LX and NEC NP-PA series. Pricing ₹2,500-₹5,000 fitted. WhatsApp the model and a video of what happens when you press the lens-shift button.
Sometimes. Convergence drift is usually a panel or DMD chip alignment issue, not a lens issue. Keystone distortion is usually a placement / mounting issue, not a lens issue. We diagnose first to make sure the lens is actually the cause before suggesting a swap.
We don't recommend it. Projector lens coatings are delicate, and water leaves residue marks that scatter light. Use only a clean microfibre cloth, dry, and very gentle pressure for visible smudges. Anything beyond that — fungus, fingerprint inside the optics, internal dust — needs a tech with the right cleaning solution and a controlled environment.
