After 12-18 months of normal use, a projector accumulates dust on the air filter, around the lamp housing, on the optical block and sometimes on the LCD or DMD chip surfaces. The visible symptoms are dark spots in the image, hazy contrast, hot air smell, and the fan ramping up earlier than it used to.

Once every 12-18 months for typical Hyderabad use — sooner if the room is dusty, more frequently in a workshop or factory environment. Symptoms that you've waited too long: dust spots in image, fan ramping early, auto-shutdown after 10-15 minutes, hot dust smell from vents. ₹1,500-₹2,500 prevents ₹6,000+ thermal damage.
We don't recommend it. Household vacuum cleaners generate static charge that can damage LCD panels and DMD chips. Generic compressed-air cans contain propellant residue that streaks lens coatings. The risk-vs-reward isn't great — ₹1,500-₹2,500 for a proper job is cheaper than replacing a damaged panel.
Standard (₹1,500-₹2,500): exterior of optical block, filter, lamp housing, lens elements. Doesn't open the LCD or DMD assembly. Deep (₹2,500-₹4,000): also opens the optical block and cleans LCD panels or DMD chip directly. Deep is needed when there are visible spots in the projected image — dust beyond the front lens.
Yes, if dust on optical surfaces was the cause. A typical 5-year-old projector that has never been cleaned can recover 15-30% perceived brightness from a thorough clean alone — no lamp swap needed. We measure before-and-after on a standard test pattern to confirm.
Manufacturer warranties usually allow third-party cleaning of external surfaces and air filters. Internal cleaning that involves opening the chassis can void warranty on some brands — check your warranty terms first. If you're under warranty, we'll happily do an external clean (filter, exterior vents, front lens) and stop there.
90 minutes on-site. We open the bottom panel, remove the lamp housing, lift the optical block, clean LCD panels or DMD chip with anti-static brush and proper solvent, refit, calibrate and run a 60-minute burn-in. Time well spent if your image has visible spots.
Sometimes. Light fungus that hasn't etched the coating cleans up with a proper lens solvent (₹799-₹1,500 lens-only clean). Heavy fungus that has etched the optical coating is permanent damage — the lens element needs replacement (₹6,000-₹20,000). We diagnose during the visit.
If you have 3+ projectors in continuous use across an office or campus, yes — a small, hand-held electronics blower for monthly filter cleaning extends the time between service visits. We can recommend a specific model and run an in-house training session as part of a Service Care Pack.
