What's actually going on.

Projector colour problems split into three families: mechanical (colour wheel rattle, slipping or stalling), optical (LCD polariser yellowing, DMD chip dust, SXRD panel drift) and electrical (DAC or video board fault). Each family has a different repair path — we diagnose first, fix second.

WhatsApp a photo of a plain-white slide projected on screen plus the model code to +91 7702503336. The colour shift in that photo tells us instantly whether you have a tired lamp, a worn colour wheel (DLP), a polariser-yellowed LCD panel or an SXRD drift on Sony cinema units. Each has different cost and turnaround — we quote before we visit.

Common Symptoms We See

Walk through any of these patterns and you're in the right place.

Whites pink or yellow

Whites looking pink, yellow or off-tint — LCD polariser yellowing or colour wheel slipping out of phase.

Colour wheel rattle

DLP projector emitting a rattle, tick or whine — colour wheel bearing worn or motor failing.

Rainbow streaks on motion

Red-green-blue colour streaks visible when you move your eyes across the screen — colour wheel slowing.

Missing colour channel

Blue gone (image is yellow), red gone (image is cyan), or green gone (image is magenta) — DAC or video board channel dead.

Visible spots in image

Black spots or specks always in the same position — dust on DMD chip or polariser plate, mostly LCD/DLP.

Patches of brown tint

Brown or yellow tint patches on the projected image — LCD polariser plates yellowing under continuous lamp heat.

How We Fix It

Four steps from WhatsApp message to working projector.

1

WhatsApp a photo of the symptom

Phone photo of the projected image showing the colour fault, plus the model code. Photo + model usually narrows the fault before we arrive.

2

On-site diagnosis with test pattern

We project red / green / blue test patterns to isolate which colour channel and which subsystem is at fault — mechanical (colour wheel), optical (panel / polariser) or electrical (DAC).

3

Repair on-site or collect for workshop

Cleaning, colour wheel swap and polariser replacement happen on-site or in our Secunderabad workshop within 2-4 working days. DMD chip work and full panel replacement need workshop and 5-10 working days.

4

Calibrate against reference

After repair we calibrate against a standard colour reference (gretag-macbeth-style chart) to confirm whites are 6500K-neutral and primaries are within spec.

Transparent Pricing

Quoted on WhatsApp before we visit. Final on the invoice.

Internal cleaning + calibration

₹1,500 – ₹2,500

Optical block clean, polariser inspection, colour-wheel speed check, image calibration against reference patterns. Many mild colour issues fixed at this level.

Colour wheel or polariser swap

₹3,500 – ₹6,000

Colour-wheel replacement (DLP brands) or polariser plate replacement (LCD brands). For wheels with audible rattle or polarisers with visible browning.

DMD / SXRD / LCoS panel work

₹6,000 – ₹14,000

DMD chip clean / re-bond (BenQ, Optoma, Dell), SXRD panel servicing (Sony), LCoS panel servicing (Canon). For severe colour drift or dead pixels.

₹149 visit charge waived when you proceed with the repair. UPI / GPay / PhonePe / Paytm / cash accepted.

Why Projector Repair World

Two decades of projector specialisation, since 2007.

Reference-pattern calibration

We don't eyeball colour. We calibrate against standard test patterns to confirm whites are neutral, primaries are saturated and the image matches what your laptop is sending.

Mechanical, optical, electrical

Colour faults span three subsystems — we diagnose all three. Most service shops only check the colour wheel and miss polariser yellowing or DAC faults.

Genuine OEM parts

Colour wheels, polarisers and DMD chips sourced from authorised distributors. No grey-market parts that drift back into colour error in 2-3 months.

₹149 visit, transparent quote

Colour problems vary widely in cost. We diagnose first, quote exact part and labour, then start work. ₹149 visit waived on proceed.

Same-day to 10 working days

Cleaning and calibration: same day on-site. Colour wheel and polariser: 2-4 working days workshop. DMD chip / SXRD / LCoS: 5-10 working days workshop.

30-day return-visit warranty

All colour repairs come with 30-day warranty. If the colour fault returns we re-diagnose and re-fix at no charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we hear most often, answered without filler.

Why are my projector whites looking pink or yellow?

Two common causes. (1) LCD polariser plates inside the LCD block yellowing under continuous lamp heat — needs polariser replacement (₹3,500-₹6,000). (2) Colour wheel slipping out of phase on a DLP projector — needs colour wheel servicing or replacement (₹2,500-₹4,500). We diagnose during the ₹149 visit.

How much does a projector colour wheel replacement cost?

₹2,500 to ₹4,500 fitted in Hyderabad, depending on the model. Standard DLP business projectors (BenQ MS, Optoma S, Acer P) are ₹2,500-₹3,500. Higher-end home cinema and boardroom DLPs are ₹3,500-₹4,500. Replacement takes 90 minutes on-site, with 30-day warranty.

Can rainbow effect on my DLP projector be reduced?

Yes, partly. Service-menu colour-wheel speed bump (free during a normal repair visit), firmware upgrade (free if available), or colour-wheel replacement with a higher-segment-count wheel (₹2,500-₹4,500) all reduce rainbow visibility. Rainbow is a fundamental DLP characteristic — mitigation is the goal, not elimination.

My projector image has a permanent yellow patch in one corner. What's the fix?

Polariser plate yellowing on an LCD projector — the plate has cooked under lamp heat. Replacement takes 2-3 working days at our workshop and runs ₹3,500-₹6,000. The fix is usually permanent for another 4-5 years (with normal lamp use). Common on Epson, Hitachi, Sanyo after 5+ years of regular use.

Is dust visible in the image always a DMD chip problem?

On a DLP projector, yes — a dark spot always in the same image position is dust on the DMD chip surface. We open the chip housing and clean (₹1,500-₹2,500). On an LCD projector, dust spots are usually on the LCD panel or polariser — same diagnosis approach, similar cleaning cost.

My projector image is missing the blue channel. Is the lamp the problem?

Unlikely the lamp — a tired lamp shifts whites yellow but doesn't kill an entire channel. Missing-channel faults are usually electrical: DAC chip on the video board has a dead output, or the LVDS cable to the panel has a broken pair. Repair: ₹6,000-₹12,000 motherboard / video board work.

How long does the polariser plate inside an LCD projector last?

5-7 years of regular use is typical. Lamp heat and Hyderabad humidity gradually yellow the polariser. Replacement is a planned service item — like a lamp, just with a longer cycle. ₹3,500-₹6,000 fitted with 30-day warranty.

Will calibrating my projector improve washed-out colours?

Calibration helps if the projector's settings have drifted. Calibration won't help if the cause is mechanical (colour wheel) or optical (polariser yellowing). We always run a calibration test as part of diagnosis — if the calibration brings the colour back, you save the cost of a hardware repair.
