What's actually going on.

Projectors run two or three fans simultaneously, an intake fan pulling cool air over the lamp, an exhaust fan pushing hot air out, and on most modern units a small blower dedicated to the DMD chip or LCD panels. Each fan has a sleeve or ball bearing rated for thousands of hours. When the bearing wears, you hear a whine that climbs with RPM. When dust packs the impeller, you get a rattle or click. When the rotor finally touches the housing, you get a grinding noise and the speed-feedback line trips a fault.

Send a short clip with the audio captured close to the vent on +91 7702503336, plus the model code, and we identify which of the fans is faulty before the visit. Cleaning and re-lube (₹800-₹1,200) helps roughly 4 in 10 cases. Beyond that the fan needs swapping (₹1,200-₹2,000) or the whole cooling system rebuilt (₹2,000-₹2,500) to restore airflow safely.

Common Symptoms We See

Walk through any of these patterns and you're in the right place.

High-pitched whine

Steady whine that increases with lamp eco-mode versus high-brightness mode. Bearing wear on the intake or exhaust fan, lubrication has dried out and the shaft is running metal-on-metal.

Rattle or click

Intermittent rattle or click that follows the fan speed. Dust accumulation on impeller blades upsetting the balance, or a small object (cable tie, stray screw) caught in the air path.

Grinding noise

Coarse grinding that builds within seconds of power-on. Bearing has failed, rotor is touching the housing, fan needs replacement before the lamp overheats.

Hot exhaust, weak airflow

Air at the exhaust vent is much hotter than usual, but airflow feels weak when you check by hand. Impeller blades clogged with dust, intake filter saturated, or fan running at reduced RPM.

Fan stops mid-use

Fan spins at startup but stops a few minutes in. Speed-feedback (tach) line failed, controller flags the fan as dead, projector throttles or shuts down to protect the lamp.

Vibration through the chassis

Whole projector buzzes when mounted, especially on a ceiling bracket. Fan rotor is unbalanced or the rubber dampers between fan and chassis have hardened.

How We Fix It

Four steps from WhatsApp message to working projector.

1

Send a clip and model code

Record 10-15 seconds of audio with the phone close to the loudest vent, capture the LED status pattern, and tell us roughly how old the projector is and the lamp hours. Send to WhatsApp 7702503336.

2

On-site fan identification

Tech arrives with replacement fans for common Epson / BenQ / Panasonic / Optoma sizes (40mm, 60mm, 70mm, 80mm), torque drivers, anti-static mats and a clean microfibre kit for the air path.

3

Open, clean, swap or rebuild

Open the casing, identify the noisy fan by ear and tach reading, vacuum the air path, replace dampers, then either re-lube the bearing or fit a new fan. Full cooling-system rebuild for projectors over 5 years old.

4

Test thermal cycle, hand back

Run the projector for 20-30 minutes through a thermal cycle, monitor exhaust temperature with an IR thermometer, confirm the fault audio is gone, and only then close up and hand back.

Transparent Pricing

Quoted on WhatsApp before we visit. Final on the invoice.

Fan clean + re-lube

₹800 – ₹1,200

Disassemble, vacuum impeller and air path, replace dampers, re-lube the bearing. Only suitable when the bearing isn't yet metal-on-metal. Roughly 4 in 10 cases resolve here.

Single-fan replacement

₹1,200 – ₹2,000

Brand-matched replacement of the intake, exhaust or blower fan. Pricing covers the part, anti-vibration dampers and labour. Most common outcome on projectors over 4 years old.

Full cooling-system rebuild

₹2,000 – ₹2,500

All three fans replaced, dampers replaced, intake filter cleaned, lamp seal inspected. Recommended on auditorium and rental projectors that run more than 6 hours a day.

₹149 visit charge waived when you proceed with the repair. UPI / GPay / PhonePe / Paytm / cash accepted.

Why Projector Repair World

Two decades of projector specialisation, since 2007.

Cooling-system specialists

We service intake, exhaust and DMD blower fans every week. We carry common 40mm/60mm/70mm/80mm fan sizes for the major Epson, BenQ, Panasonic and Optoma models on the road.

Thermal-cycle tested

Every fan job ends with a 20-30 minute thermal cycle and IR thermometer reading at the exhaust, so you don't get a quiet projector that's actually still running hot.

₹149 visit, transparent quote

We diagnose first, quote the exact part number and price, and only then start work. ₹149 visit charge, waived on proceed.

Genuine OEM parts

We source parts from authorised distributors. We do not fit unbranded aftermarket components that compromise reliability or warranty.

Same-day or workshop

On-site fixes complete same day. Workshop board-level work runs 2-7 working days for parts and rework.

30-day warranty

30-day warranty on labour and replaced parts. If the same fault returns within 30 days we re-investigate at no charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we hear most often, answered without filler.

Why has my projector fan suddenly become very loud?

Three causes account for almost every loud-fan call: bearing wear (whine), dust accumulation on the impeller (rattle), or the rotor touching the housing (grind). All three are wear-and-tear, not user damage. Cleaning fixes the dust case, fan replacement fixes the bearing case.

Is it safe to keep using my projector with a noisy fan?

No. A failing fan means reduced airflow, which means the lamp runs hotter than its safe envelope. A lamp that runs 10-15°C hotter than spec loses 30-50% of its life and can fail catastrophically. Get fan noise looked at before lamp replacement becomes the bigger bill.

How much does projector fan replacement cost in Hyderabad?

₹1,200-₹2,000 for a single fan replacement, ₹2,000-₹2,500 for a full cooling-system rebuild covering intake + exhaust + blower. Cleaning and re-lube alone runs ₹800-₹1,200 if the bearing isn't yet metal-on-metal.

My projector shuts down after 10-15 minutes. Could it be fan-related?

Yes, very likely. When the speed-feedback (tach) line on a fan fails, the controller logs the fan as dead and shuts down to protect the lamp. Same outcome if airflow drops below the thermal threshold. We diagnose by reading the service-menu fault code on visit.

Can dust really make the fan that loud?

Yes. Hyderabad's air carries fine dust that binds to the static charge on impeller blades. A dust-laden blade goes off-balance and the whole rotor wobbles, which sounds like a rattle. Cleaning recovers it, but only if you catch it before the bearing has worn from the imbalance.

Do I need to replace all the fans together?

Not always. If only one fan is loud and the others are silent under load, we replace just the noisy one. On 5+ year old projectors and rentals that run all day, we recommend rebuilding the whole cooling system in one go because the others are usually within months of failing.

How often should I clean my projector fan?

Boardroom and home-theatre use: once a year. Rental, hotel and education use: every 6 months. Hyderabad's dust load is heavier than most cities, so we lean on the shorter side. We cover this on the AMC plan.

Do you carry replacement fans for Epson and BenQ models?

Yes, common 40mm, 60mm, 70mm and 80mm fans for the most-deployed Epson EB / EH / EX series and BenQ MS / MX / MW series we keep on the van. Rare sizes for cinema-grade Sony VPL and Canon LX projectors take 2-7 working days for procurement.

Ready when you are.

WhatsApp the model code. We'll quote, dispatch and fix — same day where possible.
